We recently helped Ferndale Pharmaceuticals streamline their marketing campaign management process. Our Discovery process highlighted several pain points and opportunities for improvement; ownership, sign off, visibility and communication across teams all had room for improvement.

When analysing Ferndale’s requirements it quickly became clear that there was no requirement for a bespoke system, the most cost effective solution was to utilise one of the many established project management tools available. When it came to choosing the right one for Ferndale’s marketing and digital team’s specific needs, Monday.com stood out as a top choice. Here’s why:

1. Customisable Workflows

Monday.com's greatest strength is its flexibility in creating custom workflows. We wanted to provide the teams at Ferndale with a tool that they could grow into, starting initially with the overarching campaign boards and workspace but with the ability to grow into it and spin off additional spaces for more team specific purposes as they became more familiar with the software. Monday.com allows you to tailor your workspaces, boards, and tasks to match your unique requirements. You can create boards for content calendars, project timelines, and task lists, and customise them with the right columns, labels, and automations. Whilst tools like Trello and Notion have arguably even greater flexibility, we didn’t want to provide a completely blank canvas and Monday.com provided that balance between flexibility and rigidity.

2. Visual and Intuitive Interface

Monday.com offers a visually appealing and intuitive interface that is highly user-friendly. This is especially important for teams that need to collaborate seamlessly and track campaign progress. Some staff members would be dipping in occasionally to track progress or sign off briefs, others would be using it every day. The fact non ‘power users’ would be able to login and easily find their way around was a plus point. Additionally the ‘My work’ section gives each user a simple list of tasks relating to them, which we were unable to recreate with Trello or Notion.

3. Timeline View

Ferndale’s campaigns can span several months, so the ability to view tasks and deadlines in a timeline was critical, something Monday.com has as a core feature. It provides a clear visual representation of your campaign schedule, making it easy to see tasks and deadlines at a glance. This feature isn't available in Trello and Notion, where you'd have to rely on third-party integrations or workarounds.

4. Automation and Integration

At hrpr we love automation! Something about shaving minutes off a repeatable task gives me and Dan job satisfaction, so the fact Monday.com offers robust automation capabilities to streamline your workflow was ideal. We set up a simple campaign kick off form which gathers the initial key information required to start planning activity, and triggered automations off the back of that to set up campaign boards populated with common tasks - transforming the initial setup of campaign from a few hours to a matter of seconds. But that’s just the start, Monday.com integrates seamlessly with the company’s Microsoft suite of tools alongside other popular marketing tools like Google Analytics.

5. Collaboration Features

Effective collaboration is at the heart of any successful marketing campaign, but Ferndale were struggling to keep staff across the business up to date on progress of campaigns and keep track of responsibilities during the course of campaigns. Campaign related assets and conversations were spread across multiple apps and modes of communication. Monday.com allows them to assign tasks, delegate responsibilities and comment on tasks or projects, all within the same platform.

Conclusion

In the competitive market Ferndale operates in, efficient campaign management is key to success. While Trello and Notion have their strengths, Monday.com emerged as the preferred choice for their needs. The ability to customise workspaces and which data is captured, the user-friendly interface, timeline view, automation, integration options and collaboration features made it the obvious choice for running campaigns across multiple teams. Now, with those previous pain points addressed, the marketing team can focus on what they do best: creating successful campaigns.
